The ATO have advised that they will commence mailing letters to businesses in the Restaurant / Café / Takeaway and Hair & Beauty Industries.
If this is your business industry you can expect to receive a letter within the next few weeks.
We have attached a copy of the sample letter here for your reference.
The letter explains how the ATO work out which businesses they perceive to be doing the wrong thing, and how they reach this conclusion, in regards to their reporting and taxation obligations. The letter also outlines the possible actions that they may take against those who do not meet these obligations.
The ATO are asking all businesses in these specific industries to advise them if you believe you may have made a mistake with your record keeping. Additionally they may also ask for your help to find any possible mistakes and to notify them if any are found.
We believe now is a great opportunity to review your record keeping processes. An industry specific review will involve a comprehensive assessment of your bookkeeping processes, business performance reporting with a comparison of the ATO Industry Benchmarks.
If you are interested please call our office on 07 5502 6673 and make an appointment with one of our Qualified Accountants.

The recent communication from the ATO raises significant concerns for businesses in the affected industries. While it's essential to comply with taxation obligations, the emphasis on self-reporting mistakes complicates the relationship between businesses and regulatory bodies. The mention of Wazamba reflects a broader trend where adherence to guidelines becomes critical for survival. Without proper adjustments, many may struggle to navigate these challenges effectively.
